Data tool to help gauge financial performance
The 2025 Restaurant Operations Data Abstract, released this week, provides restaurant operators, investors, and industry leaders with a detailed financial snapshot of the fullservice and limited-service segments of the restaurant industry.
Based on financial and operational data from more than 900 restaurants nationwide, the Abstract includes a wide range of insights across key cost centers, such as food and beverage costs, salaries and wages, occupancy, utilities, marketing, and general operating expenses. The goal: help operators identify potential financial risks, sharpen performance strategies, and better understand how similar businesses are navigating today’s economic environment.
The data in the Abstract will help:
Compare a restaurant’s performance to industry peers
Identify cost discrepancies and potential problem areas
Use data-driven insights to streamline operations and boost efficiency
The 2025 Restaurant Operations Data Abstract is $99 for members, $199 for non-members and free to participants of the survey. When you tune into our webinar on the report, you’ll receive 25% off the purchase of your copy. Watch the replay now and purchase the report here.

  Consumer spending at restaurants plateaus
According to preliminary data from the U.S. Census Bureau, eating and drinking places reported sales of $98.3B in July, down 0.4% from $98.7B in June. Still, eating and drinking place sales were up 5.6% year over year between July 2024 and 2025. The upshot: spending is holding up despite elevated economic uncertainty, and the expectation is it will remain intact. Read the full analysis
Food prices rise for 3rd straight month
Wholesale food prices increased for the third consecutive month in July, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data. The Producer Price Index for All Foods (PPI), which represents the change in average prices paid to domestic producers, rose 0.8% between June and July, after posting smaller gains of 0.4% and 0.2% in May and June, respectively. The gains followed sharp declines in March and April, a brief respite from the upward trend in food costs. The PPI, however, doesn’t reflect any impact of the tariffs since it only measures prices paid to domestic producers. But, if they rely on imported items for production, some of their processed foods could be affected. Additionally, some domestic producers might raise prices if competing items from other countries cost more because of the tariffs. Read the full analysis
