Guidelines for Earthquakes and Tsunamis

Guidelines for Earthquakes and Tsunamis

Below is a summary of what to do in the event of an earthquake or tsunami. It contains important information for disasters and can be checked in Easy Japanese, English, Indonesian, and Chinese, so please verify this before a disaster occurs.

① Delivering Safe and Reliable Drinking Water During a Disaster.

Kameoka Gas water dispenser

Kameoka Gas operates a water business in Uwajima. We help ensure that everyone can drink safe, clean water at any time. The water from our company contains beneficial elements for your body. It is very delicious and healthy water.

When a major earthquake or tsunami occurs, the tap water in your home may become unusable. At that time, Kameoka Gas will bring drinking water and water dispensers to evacuation centers and people in need. In this way, Kameoka Gas prevents water shortages. Even during difficult times, we ensure that everyone who needs water can safely and securely drink water.

② Delivering LP Gas.

LP gas delivery LP gas delivery

We deliver "LP gas," used for cooking and boiling water, to everyone's homes, ensuring you can use it with peace of mind every day. Since LP gas is installed at each individual home, it is easy to use even when disasters like earthquakes or heavy rains occur. We deliver gas reliably so that you will not face difficulties in your daily life, even during emergencies.

③ Ensuring the Safe Use of Gas.

1. Meters that Automatically Shut Off During Earthquakes

Gas meter

Gas meters are equipped with a mechanism that automatically shuts off the gas when it detects the shaking of an earthquake. When it shuts off, it will make a sound and a red lamp will light up. After confirming your safety, you can press the button on the meter to use gas again.

2. Regular Inspections of Gas Cylinders

Gas cylinder inspection

We occasionally inspect gas cylinders using automatic machines. A special liquid is sprayed on the valve of the cylinder to see if any bubbles appear. If bubbles appear, it means gas is leaking, so we can thoroughly check for safety before delivering it to customers.

④ Generating Electricity with Gas Power Even During Power Outages.

Gas-powered generator

This generator makes electricity using gas. Because it is located in a high place, it is safe even if a tsunami comes. The electricity generated is used to operate the machines that fill gas cylinders. We then deliver that gas to evacuation areas. We have two generators, so if one stops working, it will still be okay.

⑤ 24/7/365 Emergency Response Capability.

Kameoka Gas Sales is always ready to help you every day so that you can use gas with peace of mind. If gas stops coming out or you smell gas, please contact us immediately at any time, day or night, all year round.

The safety meters in your homes will automatically stop the gas if there is an abnormality in the gas flow or if an earthquake of seismic intensity 5 or greater occurs.

Also, the gas checks (inspections) required by law to ensure you can use gas safely are always conducted for free. If you don't know how to reset the meter or have any trouble, please call "0895-22-0797" at any time.

For Muslims and Those Running Soup Kitchens During Disasters

Disaster meal support

Currently, at many disaster evacuation centers and soup kitchens, there is a problem: a lack of meals that Muslims can eat with peace of mind. Even among the stockpiled goods prepared by local governments—looking at examples from Uwajima City—there are still few products considerate of Muslims, and often only staple foods like white rice are available.

Under the anxious circumstances of a disaster, there are Muslims suffering from hunger with nothing they can eat. That is why we would like organizations operating children's cafeterias and soup kitchens that support local food networks to understand the current situation, and to increase, even slightly, the options for "meals that both Japanese and Muslims can eat deliciously together."

Ingenuity by "Komugiya"

Sometimes this can be solved through menu planning without needing to gather special ingredients. For example, at “Komugiya,” which is in charge of cooking for the children’s cafeteria provided by Kameoka Gas, they mainly offer pasta using fish and vegetables. This pasta, which uses the umami of seafood and vegetables without using meat, is not only delicious for Japanese people but also a safe dining option for Muslims.

What Muslims “Cannot Eat”

● Pork and pork-derived ingredients

  • Pork, ham, bacon
  • Lard (pork fat), pork extract, pork-derived gelatin
  • Curry roux, soup stocks, and snacks containing these ingredients

● Alcohol

  • All drinking alcohol
  • Seasonings such as cooking sake, mirin, and wine
  • Sweets using Western liquors, rum essence for flavoring, etc.

● General meat sold in supermarkets (beef, chicken, lamb, etc.)

Important point:
It’s not that they can eat anything as long as it’s not pork. Even beef or chicken cannot be eaten if it is standard commercially available meat that has not been processed according to Islamic rules (Halal processing). Consommé, bouillon, and chicken extract using standard meat are also not permitted.

What Muslims “Can Eat” (Halal)

The following ingredients can generally be eaten safely without Halal certification. For soup kitchens, it is easiest to use these ingredients as the main components.

  • All vegetables and fruits (including potatoes and mushrooms)
  • Grains (rice, flour, bread, pasta, udon, etc. *Must be free of alcohol and animal-derived shortening)
  • Seafood and seaweed (fish, shrimp, crab, shellfish, wakame, kelp, etc.)
  • Beans and soy products (tofu, natto, soy milk, etc.)
  • Eggs and milk
  • Seasonings (salt, sugar, pepper, vegetable oil, etc. *For soy sauce and miso, additive-free and alcohol-free varieties are preferred)
  • Halal-certified meat (*Chicken and other meats with a “Halal mark” can be purchased at commercial supermarkets like Gyomu Super, imported food stores, and online shops)

Rather than “making separate meals,” choosing a “menu that everyone can eat from the start” allows you to accommodate these needs with less burden.

We would appreciate it if you could incorporate a little bit of the “consideration for Muslims” perspective into your activities across the country, so that as many people as possible can enjoy a warm meal with peace of mind at the same dining table.
